Joe has been supplying his salanova variety of lettuce to Woolworths for three years and is delighted that it has been included at the new supermarket which opened at Glenorie
Mr D’anastasi owns Glenorie Hydroponics and said salanova was a relatively new product. “The reason why lots of people like it is because the reds are a lot sweeter and it is very easy to use and eat,” he said. “You simply cut in the core and the lettuce leaves are there to be used and cost half the price of pre-packaged lettuce.”
Mr D’anastasi has been in the hydroponics business for 23 years and now only produces and sells his lettuce to Woolworths. “It is fantastic there is a Woolworths in Glenorie because customers can get their lettuce straight from me,” he said. “Within minutes of a phone call for an order I can go and deliver the lettuce fresh to the store. You can’t get any fresher than that.”
Glenorie Woolworths was officially opened by Berowra State Liberal MP Philip Ruddock. “The Glenorie store will employ more than 100 staff and is a great opportunity for locals to be employed by such a significant Australian icon as well as conveniently located for constituents,” Mr Ruddock said at the opening.
