Refreshing activity at HFF conference
Attendees at this year’s Hydroponic Farmers Federation conference will be in a spin as the colourful addition of blender bikes will see hearts race and legs pump in a cycle for a smoothie challenge.
The Hydroponic Farmers Federation (HFF) will hold its 11th biennial conference at the Mantra Bell City in Preston, Victoria, from 25-27 June. The program includes speaker and panel sessions, technical exhibition and farm tour.
In addition to bringing its market leading varieties in the heated segment to the conference, Rijk Zwaan will partner with the HFF through its social initiative, Love my Salad, to present Bike n’ Blend.
On Monday and Wednesday mornings of the conference, anyone feeling up to the challenge can cycle on a specially designed blender bike to create his or her choice of a ‘Hydroponic Tonic’ or a ‘Blendy Mary’. With a leader board to capture the fastest time and prizes to be won, it’s sure to get heated.
At Rijk Zwaan’s number 27 stand, Crop specialist for high-tech greenhouse crops, Phill Ritchie, will be on hand to talk crops and varieties, growing techniques and the latest developments in the heated segment.
“We’ll have our proven eggplant performer, Monarca RZ, on display, as well as an exciting new striped variety, Lydia RZ, a type that typically absorbs less oil, making it a healthier option for consumers,” Phill said.
While Rijk Zwaan’s Endeavour RZ truss tomato has dominated the market and achieved a strong reputation for its balanced plant habit, firm fruit, improved flavour and quality, the company is also pleased to present Tomicia RZ, a new tomato variety which can be sold with six uniform fruits on the truss for premium segments.
Rijk Zwaan will also showcase varieties in cucumbers and capsicums. Phill said it’s a good time to be in protected cropping in Australia.
“Australia has some of the most advanced hi-tech glasshouse production in the world that can produce consistently high quality fresh produce,” Phill said.
“As a breeding company we fully understand this sector is expanding and we are creating varieties that are not only suitable, but will thrive in high-tech,
“Come and see us at stands 26 and 27 to learn what will work for you.”
